Winner and leader of the Tour of Spain
30.08.2009
I would have been a fool to let the chance slip by me and not secure the victory. But I went to the start of the Tour of Spain's prologue in Assen (the Netherlands) without huge ambitions.
I didn't know exactly how my form would suit the race and reckoned that a prologue-specialist would come out on top.
So my brief was simply to give it my best.
I would certainly never have put money on myself.
But as I stood at the start and saw the crowd and the purpose-built course, my competitive spirit was awakened.
The long, drawn out curves might have been made for me.
After 4.8 kilometres and 5: 20 minutes I won the race ahead of Tom Boonen and Tyler Farrar.
I'm very happy, of course, that now I will lead the entire field in the Tour of Spain for the first time.
I hope you have a wonderful Sunday!
Fabian.
